You gather the idea that Mauritius was made first then heaven, and that heaven was copied after Mauritius - Mark Twain, 1896IRS Mosaique

Who can buy an RES property?

There is no minimum investment for the RES.  However to benefit from Residency, the minimum investment is USD 500,000.  This will enable the investor to own freehold property, and to both reside and work in Mauritius. By clicking on reside, the user will go on the reside page

Just like the IRS, the property can either be acquired directly by the investor in his own name or via an approved holding structure.  The acquisition via a holding structure will in no way impede negatively on the residency application, of the ultimate owner.  In fact, this type of structure keeps tax rate to a minimal in an event the property has to be transferred onto another one.

Under the guidelines of the Board of Investment, the sponsor of the RES concept, the following persons/entities can apply for an RES property:

  • A non-citizen of Mauritius
  • A Citizen of Mauritius
  • A company registered as a foreign company under the Companies Act 2001
  • A company incorporated under the Mauritius Companies Act 2001
  • A domestic company incorporated under the Mauritius Companies Act 2001
  • A locally registered trust
